CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Winthrop women's basketball had two players named to the 2023 Big South All-Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. Graduate forward Paige Powell and sophomore guard Leonor Paisana, were honored after the Eagles concluded the regular-season 8-21 overall and 6-12 conference record and a ninth place league finish.
 
Powell garnered honorable mention after a season that saw her rack up more than 500 rebounds in her career. She finished third in the Big South in offensive rpg (3.7) and free throw attempts (140), fourth in blocked spg (1.0) and field goal percentage (4.78) and fifth in rpg (7.3). Powell leads Winthrop in double-doubles this season with seven and also has more than 500 plus rebounds in her career, achieving this feat in Rock Hill in a victory over Radford on Feb. 4. She also recorded nine steals in the Radford game, a season high and coming with two of tying the individual single-game high in that category (Cassandra Barnes had 11 steals vs. Sacred Heart on Feb. 12, 1981). Powell's nine steals is also the most in a game since Jac'Che Whitfield has seven vs. USC Upstate on 1/10/19.
 
Paisana was named to the all-academic team by leading Winthrop in three-point FG attempts (127), three-point FG made (38), second in FT percentage (.750) and first in assists (78). She also set season highs in four categories against USC Upstate at home on Feb. 12 by making half of her shots from deep (6-12) for 21 points, resulting in Winthrop getting a sweep of the Spartans. The chemistry major currently has a GPA of 3.606.
