Karli Shepherd has been named to the 2023 Academic All-District Volleyball team by College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA).
Shepherd played in all 28 matches of the 2023 campaign, a year in which the Eagles finished 14-14, second place in the Big South Conference at 12-2 and advancing to the title match of the conference tournament. The Eagles also made their first post-season appearance since 2019 by facing Georgia Southern in the first round of the 2023 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.
Shepherd was named to the all-academic team for the first time in her career. She had 10 matches in double figures in kills, two matches in double figures in digs and in double doubles in kills and digs. Shepherd was at her best vs. South Carolina at home on Sep. 16, posting a season-high 16 kills and 16 digs. Shepherd is third on the team in kills with 215. She was named to the Winthrop Invitational All-Tournament Team on Sep. 17 and was also named the Big South Co-Player of the Week on Sep. 18. Shepherd finishes the season with 215 kills, 118 digs, 13 aces and 24 blocks.
She is Winthrop's first recipient of the award since Emily Heckel in 2006 and the sixth Eagle all-time.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
