Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball (14-12, 12-2 Big South) is set to face No. 1 seeded High Point (22-6, 14-0) in the finals of the Big South tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 4:00 p.m. The match will be held on High Point's campus inside the Millis Athletic Center, the site of all 2023 tournament contests. Each match of the championship will be carried on ESPN+. The winner of the tournament will receive the Big South Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS HIGH POINT
This will be the 67th meeting between the programs, with Winthrop leading the series 39-27 but has lost the last eight matches to High Point. Winthrop's last win in the series was 3-0 on Oct. 18, 2019 in Rock Hill. The first meeting was in 1975 with High Point winning 2-1 on the way to capturing the first seven matchups in the series. The Eagles notched their first ever victory over the Panthers on Sep. 24, 1979 by a final score of 2-0 and won the re-match a month later on Nov. 15, also by a 2-0 count. The victory on Sep. 24 started a run of total Eagle dominance over High Point for the next 30 years, winning 31 of the next 33 matchups, including 26 in a row from Nov. 17, 1982 to Nov. 10, 2007. High Point finally ended their long drought against Winthrop with a 3-1 victory in High Point on Oct. 10, 2008 and since then the series has been all Panthers, with High Point winning 18 of the last 26 meetings. High Point won both matches from the Eagles this season.

• Winthrop defeated Gardner-Webb in the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament by a final score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) this afternoon at the Millis Athletic Center on the campus of High Point University.
• Madison Gorniak recorded her 1,000th dig in the match.
• Brookelynn Thomas led the Eagles in kills with 11 and blocks with three.
• Rylie McMahen led the Eagles in aces with three.
• Isabella Murray led the Eagles in assists with 29.
• Gorniak led the Eagles in digs with 11.

 BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT HISTORY

• The Eagles have won the Big South tournament crown six times, most recently in 2019 when they also won the regular season championship.
• Winthrop has also appeared in the championship match on four other occasions, finishing as the runners-up.
• Winthrop is 35-28 all-time in the Big South Tournament.
• Winthrop lost to defending champion High Point in the semifinals last season, 3-1 and has lost their last two tournament matches.
• Winthrop's last tournament victory was in 2021, a 3-1 victory over Presbyterian.
