Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off an 84-43 home win over Erskine to get their first victory of the 2023-24 season, Winthrop women's basketball (1-2, 0-0 Big South) travels to South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
This will be the 25
th meeting between the Eagles and the Bulldogs, with South Carolina State leading the series 15-9. The Eagles have won the last three meetings, including the most recent meeting on Dec. 3, 2022, with Winthrop emerging victorious 61-38 in Rock Hill. Winthrop won the first encounter 64-62 on Feb. 3, 1975. However, the Bulldogs won 12 of the next 14 encounters. Winthrop's only victories during this period were both at home, a 71-65 result on Nov. 21, 1998 and a 73-62 decision on Feb. 5, 2001. Winthrop has since won six of the last nine meetings. South Carolina State went 3-27 (2-12 MEAC) in 2022.

- Head coach Semeka Randall-Lay earned her 90th career coaching victory.
- Winthrop snapped a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
- Winthrop recorded their largest margin of victory since defeating Liberty 93-52 in the 2005-06 campaign, also by 41 points.
- The Eagles almost pitched a shutout in the first quarter, getting off to a 17-0 start and holding Erskine scoreless for nearly nine minutes.
- Winthrop held Erskine to 29.8% from the field, including 7.14% in the first quarter.
- Winthrop shot 48.0% from the field.
- Four Eagles scored in double figures.
- Ronaltha Marc registered career-highs in points and rebounds.
- Marissa Gasaway registered her second game in double figures in rebounds.
- Prunelle Mungo, Jada Ryce and Leonor Paisana registered their first game of the season scoring in double figures.
- Mungo set a career-high in points.
