Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop won their first game of the season vs. Erskine in the Eagles' home opener by a final score of 84-43 on Tuesday night.

How it Happened
First Quarter | Winthrop almost pitched a shutout in the quarter, getting off to a 17-0 start and holding Erskine scoreless for nearly nine minutes.
Prunelle Mungo capped off the hot start with a layup at the 2:04 mark. Erskine finally got on the board 30 seconds later on a free throw.
Leonor Paisana then drained one from deep to make it 20-1 on the next play. Mungo concluded the frame with a layup just before the buzzer and the Eagles led 24-5 going into the second quarter. The Winthrop defense was suffocating in the quarter, holding the Flying Fleet to just one field goal.
Second Quarter | The Flying Fleet scored nine of the first 12 points of the second quarter, holding Winthrop to just three points in the first four minutes. This strong start by the visitors cut the lead to 13 at 27-14. The two teams then split the next 16 points for nearly the final five minutes.
Jada Ryce's jumper with five seconds left put the Eagles up 15 at 39-24 going to the break.
Third Quarter | Winthrop tacked on the first five points to start the second half with a layup by
Marissa Gasaway and a three-point play by
Ronaltha Marc. The Eagle defense continued to do their thing, holding the Flying Fleet to one field goal for nearly the first seven minutes. Winthrop eventually seized a 31-point lead at 59-28 on a three-pointer by Marc with 3:31 left. Her jumper from deep capped off a 13-0 Eagle run. Winthrop went into the final quarter with a 65-31 lead after a layup by
Angel Burgos with 26 seconds remaining.
Fourth Quarter | Winthrop scored nine of the first 15 points to start the fourth frame, taking a 37-point lead at 74-37 with 6:31 left after a layup by Marc. Erskine scored five quick points with less than five minutes left but that was their last field goal of the night. The Eagles would go on to win 84-43.
