Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop won their seventh straight match by defeating Charleston Southern at home by a final score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-23).

How it Happened
Set 1 | Winthrop jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead, led by two kills by
Brookelynn Thomas. Charleston Southern scored the next three points to tie the set but Winthrop went on an 8-1 run to take a seven-point lead at 13-6.
Isabella Murray had two aces to lead the way for Winthrop during the run. After the Buccaneers scored the next two points, the Eagles exploded again, this time going on an 11-4 run to seize their largest lead of the set at 24-12. Thomas's three kills and a service ace lead the second Winthrop outburst. Three plays later,
Avery Jolley put Winthrop up 1-0 in the match with a kill.
Set 2 | The second frame was all Eagles. Ahead 6-4, scored eight straight points to take a commanding 14-4 lead. Two kills each by Jolley and
Riley Oglevie led the way for the Eagles during the run. This run allowed Winthrop to have complete control of the set the rest of the way. Then up 18-7, the Eagles scored the final seven points to take a 2-0 lead in the match, with
Karli Shepherd notching two kills to account for Winthrop's final seven points.
Set 3 | The final set proved to be a thriller. Down 6-4, Winthrop went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-6 lead.
Rachel McCollum had two aces during the rally. Charleston Southern rallied with a 6-2 run to tie the set at 12. Shepherd's kill on the next play put Winthrop back in the lead and the Eagles maintained a lead ranging from one to three points for the next several plays. Charleston Southern refused to go away, scoring six of the next seven points to take a 23-21 lead and it appeared the visitors would force a fourth set. It was not to be for the Buccaneers as Winthrop scored the final four points to win the match and in doing so, securing their seventh straight win and a regular-season sweep of their foes from Charleston.
