Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a week in which the Eagles split home matches with High Point on Friday (0-3) and Radford the next day (3-1), Winthrop Volleyball (3-11, 2-1 Big South) travels to Charleston Southern for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Buccaneers on ESPN+ and then goes to Presbyterian the next day for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Blue Hose.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
This will be the 91st meeting between the programs, with Winthrop leading the series 71-19 and have won the last four matchups. The first meeting was in 1980 with Winthrop winning 2-0 on the way to capturing the first seven and 14 of the first 15 matchups in the series. Winthrop's longest win streak in the series was 31 straight matches from Oct. 28, 1995 to Oct. 20, 2009. Last season Winthrop won both encounters with the Buccaneers. Charleston Southern went 15-16 (8-8 Big South Conference) in 2022 and lost to former Big South member Campbell 3-0 in the semifinals of the conference tournament on the High Point University campus in North Carolina.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS PRESBYTERIAN
This will be the 43
rd meeting between the programs, with Winthrop leading the series 32-10 and has won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two schools. The first meeting was on Oct. 13, 1976, with the Eagles winning 2-0 on the way to taking the first nine and 15 of the first 18 matchups in the series. The Eagles split two matches with the Blue Hose last season. Winthrop won the first match 3-0 in Rock Hill on Oct. 13 but Presbyterian's 3-1 victory in Clinton in the second match on Nov. 12 snapped Winthrop's nine-game win streak in the series, tied for the Eagles' longest win streak against the Blue Hose. Presbyterian went 9-19 (5-11 Big South Conference) in 2022.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Eagles took on defending Big South champion High Point in the Eagles conference home opener on Friday and then Radford the next day
- The Panthers registered a sweep of the Eagles but Winthrop bounced back with a 3-1 win over the Highlanders
- Riley Oglevie had a career-high in kills (15) in the Radford match
- Karli Shepherd achieved her 500th career kill on the weekend
- Winthrop saw four players get into double figures in kills in the Radford match
- The last time this happened was vs. USC Upstate at home on Nov. 8, 2019, when the Eagles had five
