Rock Hill, S.C. – Toneari Lane led four Eagles in double-figures with a game-high 16 points to lead Winthrop to a 76-58 victory at Presbyterian College, Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center.

FIRST HALF
- The Blue Hose scored on the opening possession as Terrell Ard Jr. hit a pull-up jumper in the lane
- Toneari Lane scored the first bucket for the Eagles with a pull-up jumper in the paint to trail 3-2
- A three from Sin'Cere McMahon tied the game at 5-5 and then the game was tied 7-7 after McMahon found Michael Moore for the slam
- After the teams traded baskets, the Eagles grabbed their first lead at 10-9 on a three-point play from Chase Claxton at the 12:29 mark
- The lead grew to three points after Kelton Talford scored at the rim but a three-point play by Marquis Barnett tied the game again at 12-12 a minute later
- The game was tied 18-18 after a three from Barnett, but the Eagles went on an 8-0 to take a three possession advantage
- It started off when Cameron Whiteside scored off the drive and then buried a three off a dish from Claxton
- Lane capped off the run with a three to lead 26-18 with 5:44 before the half
- PC worked its way back to a one point deficit, but the Eagles held on to lead 34-32 at the half
- Winthrop opened the game hitting nine of its first 12 shots and despite finishing the first half 1-for-6 the Eagles shot 55 percent
SECOND HALF
- Trevon Reddish-Rhone opened the second half with bucket inside to tie the game
- However, Winthrop put together a quick 7-0 run to lead 41-34 just two and a half minutes into the half
- Lane got the run started with a layup on the break off a feed from Kasen Harrison
- Then Harrison knocked down a three and Talford scored inside for the seven point advantage
- A Barnett basket inside cut the Winthrop lead to five points with 16:29 remaining, but the Eagles went on another run
- This run pushed the lead into double-figures as the Eagles scored nine straight starting with an offensive put-back dunk from Xavier McKelvy
- On the other end Claxton poked the ball away for a steal as he collected the ball and dribbled the length of the floor and finished with a two-handed dunk
- After a few possessions, Lane poked the ball away for a steal and went the distance as he finished with a layup for an and one
- Lane completed the three-point point play for a 48-36 lead
- Whiteside's free throws put the Eagles up 14 with just under 14 to play
- PC cut the deficit to single-digits at 50-41, but a three by Claxton put the Eagles back up by double-figures for the remainder of the game
- Blue Hose were within 10 points with 8;44 remaining but back-to-back threes from Lane put Winthrop in the driver's seat as it went on to push its lead to as much as 21 at 70-49
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Winthrop finished the game shooting 58 percent from the floor while holding PC to 40 percent
- The Eagles were 10-of-18 behind the arc while the Blue Hose were 6-for-19
- Both teams connected on 14 free throws as the Eagles were 14-for-20 and PC was 14-for-18
- Eagles edged the Blue Hose on the glass, 26-22, and both teams finished with just six offensive rebounds
- In addition to connecting on 10 triples, Winthrop outscored the Blue Hose 30-26 in the paint
- The Eagles led 34-32 at the half as no Eagle scored double-figures and eight different players scored
- Lane scored a game-high 16 points while Harrison added 14, Whiteside had 12 and McMahon chipped in with 11
NOTABLES
- Winthrop captured its ninth straight win over the Blue Hose and 5th straight on the road in the series
- Eagles have hit 10 or more threes in back-to-back games for the third time this season and it is the 10th game with 10 or more
- This was the largest margin of victory over PC since the Eagles won 93-56 on Feb. 25, 2017 (at PC)
- Eagles are back to .500 in league play and sitting all alone in 5th place
- The win also put the Eagles at 4-4 in the month of January and ensured a 11th straight season with a .500 or better in the month
- This was the 775th victory in the history of the program
UP NEXT
Winthrop returns home looking for a third straight win as it will host Longwood on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. It will be a "White Out" and the first 200 students will get a free white Winthrop Basketball t-shirt.
