Jared Broughton Joins Winthrop Baseball Staff

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Jared Broughton has been named an assistant coach for the Winthrop Baseball program, head coach Tom Riginos announced Monday.

"I am excited to announce that Jared Broughton will be joining our staff," Riginos said. "JB brings a great deal of knowledge and energy to our program. I feel JB is a great fit for the program as he is a proven recruiter and teacher of the game."

Broughton spent the past three season as a volunteer assistant at Clemson. He coached six All-ACC performers, including the 2022 ACC Player of the Year, and twelve players who were drafted into the MLB. As the hitting coach this past year, the team notched 100 home runs, third all-time in Tiger history.

Prior to Clemson, he served as the associate head coach and head junior varsity coach at Division III institution Piedmont University. During his final season in 2019, the team won the conference championship. He assisted with the development of ten all-league players, including the 2018 and 2019 conference player of the year. The team also earned the ABAC Team Academic Excellence Award each of his three years there.

Broughton was an assistant coach at Division III Earlham College from 2014-16, coaching 11 all-conference players. The program set their record for wins during the 2016 season.

He was a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American in 2010 while leading Vincennes University (Ind.) to the NJCAA World Series. From there, he moved on to Dayton and was a two-year letterman. In 2012, the program won the Atlantic 10 conference championships and earned a berth to the NCAA Regionals.

Broughton earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Dayton in the spring of 2013.
