Eagles Fall To Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Winthrop baseball program fell to UNC Asheville on Sunday, ending their 2022 season.
 
The Eagles are 18-34 (11-13 Big South) overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Asheville used a wild pitch to take an early 1-0 lead
  • Khyree Miller scored on an Ethan Fewell groundout to tie the game in the top of the second
  • The Bulldogs used an RBI single to retake the lead in the bottom of the frame
  • The home team used a three-run homer in the third to take a 5-1 lead
  • Spyke singled home Joey Tepper in the fourth to cut into the lead
  • Asheville used an RBI double, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single to extend their lead to six
  • Two wild pitches brought home Conrad and Joseph Szvetitz in the fifth to cut the advantage to 8-4
  • In the ninth, Winthrop threatened as Robby Taul scored on a throwing error and the tying run came to the plate, but the Eagles were unable to make up any more ground
