HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Winthrop baseball program won their first conference game of 2022 Sunday afternoon in a back and forth contest against the High Point Panthers.
 
The Eagles are 6-16 (1-2 Big South) overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• High Point took the early lead on an RBI groundout in the first inning
• Winthrop responded with two runs in the top of the second as Strauss singled to right field and Nate Chronis brought home Conrad with a sacrifice bunt
• The Panthers tied the score in the top of the third on an RBI single
• The Eagles struck back in the fourth as Strauss doubled in Khyree Miller, Robby Taul sacrifice bunted to bring in Conrad, and Tepper singled to bring in Strauss
• High Point used a solo homer to get back within three runs
• A Ty Hooks fielder's choice and another RBI hit from Strauss extended the lead to 7-3
• The Panthers used another RBI single to get back within 7-4
• Strauss singled in Miller and Joseph Szvetitz for a 9-4 lead
• High Point used a two-run homer, an RBI single, and error, and another RBI single to knot the game
• Tepper singled and Taul eventually scored to provide the final margin
