Eagles Defeat Eastern Michigan In Game Two

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program continued their excellent start to 2022 with an 8-6 victory against Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
 
The Eagles are 2-0 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eastern Michigan got on the board first in the top of the second inning as they walked in a run for a 1-0 lead
  • The visitors upped their lead to two runs on an RBI groundout in the top of the third inning
  • The fifth inning was magic for the Eagles as they began their comeback
  • In his first collegiate plate appearance and as a pinch hitter, Evan Ames hit a three-run homer to right field to give Winthrop the lead
  • The Eagles continued their excellent inning as they drew two walks to extend the lead to 5-2
  • Eastern Michigan used a solo home run to cut the lead to two in the top of the sixth
  • Jack Spyke gave the Eagles a 6-3 lead in the seventh with an RBI double
  • The lead expanded to 8-3 in the eighth as Sean Flannery doubled and later came around to score on a wild pitch
  • Eastern Michigan scored three runs in the ninth to close the gap, but Matt Levenson closed the deal for his first save of the year
