ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop women's basketball program continued their positive momentum from this past Saturday and cruised to their second straight Big South Conference victory as they defeated Presbyterian 58-42 Tuesday evening inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

How it Happened
First Quarter | Presbyterian made a short jumper to start the scoring, but the basket was quickly matched by
Myra Strickland. The teams traded buckets once again before a free throw from Strickland and a three pointer by
Luka Malinka gave the Eagles an 8-4 lead. The Blue Hose countered with a basket, but Winthrop came back with another Malinka three pointer and took an 11-8 lead into the second period.
Second Quarter | The Blue Hose quickly tied the score on a three pointer of their own, but the Eagles used a
Sydney Hunter layup, a Malinka jumper, and a
Leonor Paisana pull-up three extended the lead back to 18-11. Presbyterian used a 5-0 run to get within two points and then tied the score at 19 with just less than five minutes until halftime. Winthrop closed the half on a 9-0 run, capped off by two
J'Mani Ingram free throws, to take a nine point lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter | The Eagles used stifling defense and a 7-0 run out of the break to take a commanding 35-19 lead with seven and a half minutes to play in the stanza. Presbyterian managed to cut into the lead with a three, but neither team scored for a couple minutes until another Hunter jumper and a Strickland layup gave Winthrop their biggest lead of the evening at 17. Two Strickland free throws shortly thereafter extended said lead to 19.The Blue Hose closed within 13 on a layup with 43 seconds left and kept the deficit the same heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter |
Sierra Hunter made a layup early in the final period to give the Eagles a 15 point lead, although Presbyterian countered with consecutive baskets and a free throw to draw within 10. Strickland scored twice to extend the lead back to 14, and the Blue Hose never got closer from there on.
Caroline De Klauman made a layup with 40 seconds left to close out the game and give Winthrop a decisive sixteen-point victory.
