Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop men's basketball suffered an 86-81 loss to Coastal Carolina, Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Coliseum.

FIRST HALF
- The teams traded leads in the early going and the game was tied 6-6 at the 16:32 mark after Toneari Lane drilled a three
- Eagles took a 13-9 lead as the Eagles pushed the ball ahead and Chase Claxton found Lane on the wing for another three
- Linton Brown answered with a three from Coastal and then off a turnover Jomaru Brown stole the ball and pushed it ahead to Jimmy Nichols for the slam and a 14-13 lead
- It remained a one possession game until the Eagles jumped ahead 27-22 with 7:03 left after Kasen Harrison scored off the drive
- Coastal's Brown responded by hitting a triple on three consecutive possession to put the Chanticleers on top 31-27 with 5:43 left
- Coastal led 36-33 with 2:46 left in the half but the Eagles fought back as the game was tied 43-43 at the break
- The Eagles shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half and hit 8-of-19 behind the arc
- Coastal Carolina shot 57 percent from the floor
SECOND HALF
- Lane opened up the scoring in the second half to give the Eagles the lead and then after a basket inside by Josh Uduje, McMahon hit a three for a 49-45 advantage
- The McMahon three sparked a 6-0 spurt for a 52-45 lead with 18:15 on the clock as Talford scored the last three points of the run with a three-point play after an offensive board
- Eagles held the lead until Coastal tied the game at 54-54 and then grabbed a three-point advantage after a three-point play from Likayi
- The Chanticleers held the lead for nearly four minutes until the Eagles tied the game at 62-62 on a corner three from Xavier McKelvy
- Another three from McMahon put the Eagles up 65-63 and then pushed the lead to four points on a Harrison basket at the rim
- The game was tied 71-71 after Jomaru Brown knocked down a three from the win for Coastal
- Then Jomaru Brown scored the next four points for seven straight to put Coastal ahead 75-71 with 3:25 to play
- Winthrop cut the deficit to 75-74 with 2:15 to play but a Likayi corner three sparked a 6-0 spurt to lead 81-74 with just under a minute to play
- Winthrop shot just 36 percent from the floor in the second half while Coastal shot 43 percent
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Coastal Carolina finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor while the Eagles shot 43 percent
- Winthrop finished with 13 threes and was 13-for-36 behind the arc (36%)
- Both teams had at least 20 free throw attempts as Winthrop was 16-of-20 at the line and Coastal finished 21-for-26
- Winthrop had 21 points off turnovers while the Chanticleers had 18
