CLINTON, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball lost to Presbyterian in the regular-season finale by a final score of 3-1 (27-29, 25-20, 22-25, 19-25) Saturday afternoon at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Winthrop started the match up 7-3, with a kill each by
Avery Jolley,
Alayna Jansky and
Karli Shepherd leading the way. PC then went on a 10-3 to take a 13-10 lead. The Eagles responded with four of the next five points to tie the set at 14 via three Jansky kills. The Blue Hose exploded again with a 10-6 run to take a 24-20 lead and put the Eagles on the brink of going down 1-0 in the match. The Eagles refused to go away, rallying with five straight points to take a 25-24 lead. The run was capped by a kill from Shepherd. PC then got two straight to put themselves within one point of winning the set. But
Riley Oglevie tied it up on a kill on the next play. PC took the lead again only to have
Sydney Nolan tie it up at 27. PC finally got two points to clinch a thrilling first set, 29-27.
Set 2 | The second set started at 4-4 but PC scored three straight for a 7-4 lead. Winthrop then responded with six straight points to take a 10-7 lead, capped off by a Nolan kill. PC had four errors during the run. The Blue Hose cut it to one at 10-9 only to see the Eagles get three quick points for a 13-9 lead. PC continued to fight, eventually taking a 20-19 lead. Undaunted, the Eagles closed the second set with a 6-0 run to tie the match at one apiece.
Isabella Murray had two kills during the clinching run and was capped off by an error against PC.
Set 3 | The Eagles started out the third set with a 6-2 lead, with Oglevie getting two kills. PC scored six of the next seven points to take an 8-7 lead but Winthrop scored three straight of their own for a 10-8 lead. A 4-0 run by PC gave the hosts a 12-10 lead only to see Winthrop score three of the next four points to knot it at 13. The Blue Hose scored six of the next nine points to take a 19-16 lead but Winthrop battled back to lead 21-20 on a Jansky kill. PC took a 22-21 lead but Oglevie tacked on a kill to make it 22-22. The home team then would score three straight to end the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4 | Winthrop fell behind early in the fourth set at 8-5, with Jansky registering three kills. The Eagles took an 11-9 lead by scoring six of the next seven points via four PC errors. For the next several points, neither team could take more than a one point edge. Winthrop tied it for the last time at 15-15 on a kill by Shepherd. A 10-4 run ended the set at 25-19 and the match 3-1 for PC, enabling their seniors to go home happy in the final home contest of their careers.
