Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop women's soccer is set to host Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon in its final home weekend game for the remainder of the season. The Eagles will have a pregame ceremony to recognize its graduating seniors.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS GARDNER-WEBB
Winthrop and Gardner-Webb square off for the 21
st time. It is a tight series with the Runnin' Bulldogs holding a small edge in the all-time series at 10-9-1. After losing three straight to Gardner-Webb, the Eagles are unbeaten in the last two contests. In the last meeting the Eagles went to Boiling Springs and scored two goals in the final eight minutes and two seconds to pull off a 2-1 win.

- This matchup features the top two scorers in the Big South as Gardner-Webb's Maddie Turlington leads the conference in points per game and Winthrop's Annabel Thomas is second
- Thomas leads the team in scoring with 14 points, which is tied for 3rd in the Big South
- Thomas is 2nd in the league in scoring at 1.40 points per game, which ranks 54th n the nation
- Thomas has six goals on the year, which is tied for 2nd in the Big South and 2nd for goals per game

- Smith is the top returning scorer (2g, 1a) as she came off the bench in all 15 games she appeared

- She was the first Eagle since Karly Gustafson in 2015 to record at least three shutouts in a season
- Giarrizzi was 3rd in the Big South in saves per game at 5.33, which ranks 7th in a single-season for an Eagle
- This year's squad features eight freshmen, four sophomores, nine juniors and three seniors
- This will be the 358th game in Winthrop women's soccer program history
- Spencer Smith is in his 13th season as head coach and coached in his 200th game for the Eagles on Sept. 25, 2021 vs. USC Upstate
- Smith is currently fifth all-time in Big South history for victories (three wins behind 4th)
