Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball lost their home finale against High Point by a final score of 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 12-25, 20-25) Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Coliseum.

How it Happened
Set 1 | After trailing 3-1, three straight kills by
Brookelynn Thomas and an error by High Point put Winthrop in the lead at 5-4. High Point would then score three of the next four points to go up 8-6 only to have Winthrop go up two points on four straight occasions on three kills by
Karli Shepherd and a kill by
Alicia Roberts and
Avery Jolley.
Isabella Murray and Shepherd also had an ace during the run. The Panthers fought back to tie it up at 15 but the Eagles began to pull away after that, finishing the set on an 11-7 run. The run included a critical four straight by Winthrop, with two of the points being two straight kills by
Alicia Davis and a Roberts kill to go up 21-17. High Point cut it to two but an error gave Winthrop a 22-19 lead. The Panthers cut it to two one more time but two errors against the visitors made it 24-20 Eagles. After a High Point kill an
Alayna Jansky kill ended the set at 25-21, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2 | The second set started out 3-3 on two kills by Jansky and a kill by Jolley but High Point went on a 9-3 run to take a 12-6, with the only points coming on a Roberts and Jolley kill and a service error. Winthrop then went on a 7-4 run, scoring off four Panther errors, a
Madison Gorniak ace, a Jansky kill and a Thomas kill to cut the deficit to three at 16-13. Winthrop continued to fight back, cutting it to two at 18-16 on a Panther error and a Shepherd and Jolley kill. The Panthers then scored the next seven points to tie the match at one.
Set 3 | Winthrop took a 2-0 lead off an error and a Jansky kill. The Panthers then scored the next five points but Jansky stopped the run with a kill. After the Panthers restored their three-point lead, kills by Jansky and Thomas combined with an error tied the match at six. High Point went up four points at 10-6 but Winthrop scored three of the next four points to make it 11-9 off a kill by Murray. The Panthers got two more points but a kill by Jolley made it 13-10 in favor of the visitors. High Point then scored twelve of the next fourteen points to end the set at 25-12 and giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4 | The fourth set started at 3-3 with two kills by Jansky and an error on the Panthers. The Panthers then scored eighteen of the next twenty six points to go up 21-11. Jansky led the way with two kills during the High Point run. Winthrop then responded with seven of the next eight points, including five straight as the Eagles tried to comeback. Jansky had two kills and Roberts tacked on an ace during the run, cutting it to 22-18. High Point then scored two more to come within one point of taking the match, but Jansky got two kills to make it 24-20. High Point ended it with a kill.
