How it Happened
Set 1 | Eagles raced out to a 7-0 lead behind the serving of
Rylie McMahen, who started the match off with an ace.
Alayna Jansky added three kills during the run. PC fought back to a tw0-point deficit, outscoring the Eagles 8-3 to trail 10-8. A kill by
Alicia Roberts ended the run and started a straight for the Eagles. Leading 15-11, the Eagles scored three straight and eventually led 18-13. Winthrop scored seven of the final 10 points to take the opening set 25-16. The Eagles had three blocks in the set and Jansky led the way with five kills.
Set 2 | After the teams traded the first four points, the Eagles scored four straight for a 6-2 advantage. PC battled its way back to take the lead 10-9 by scoring three straight and an overall run of 7-1. A kill by
Karli Shepherd tied the set at 10-10, which ignited a 5-0 run. The teams went back-and-forth as the set remained tight and was a one point set with Winthrop leading 19-18. A kill by Shepherd followed by a kill from Jansky had the Eagles on top 21-18, but PC made it a one point set again at 21-20. After a Winthrop timeout, Roberts came through with a kill at the start of a 3-0 run as the Eagles took the set 25-21. Jansky and Shepherd led the team with three kills and as a team the Eagles had three lbocks.
Set 3 | PC led 2-0 in the early going and then 3-1 after a kill by Rylee Moorhead. Jansky recorded a kill and then had back-to-back service aces to take a 4-3 lead. The Eagles ended up on a 10-0 run behind Jansky's serving. The Eagles pushed the lead to double-digits at 15-5 after a block by Roberts and
Isabella Murray. Leading 18-9 the Eagles had back-to-back blocks from Roberts and Jansky to push the lead back to double-digits at 20-9. Winthrop went on to win the set 25-12 to take the match. Eagles had six blocks in the set, while Jansky led with three kills.
