Rock Hill, S.C. — Madyson Watson tossed a four-hit shutout to help lead Winthrop to a 1-0 victory over Gardner-Webb, Tuesday afternoon in Big South Conference softball action.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Macy McCall led off the bottom of the first with a single through the hole at short and then stole second
- McCall moved to third on a passed ball before Bailey Warren walked to put runners at the corners
- With one out, Taylor Charlton walked to load the bases but Brooke Perry got Ansley Gilreath looking and Madyson Watson swinging to end the threat
- Eagles threatened again in the bottom of the second as Lauren King walked with one out followed by a bunt single from Ashton Vanhouse
- On the bunt single, King moved to third as the late throw to first was off the mark
- The threat ended as McCall and Warren struck out back-to-back
- McCall drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fifth and then stole second to move into scoring position
- Warren then sacrificed her to third, giving Ashley Westbrooks a chance to drive her home
- Westbrooks didn't get the opportunity as a pitch from Perry got away from the catcher at home plate and McCall race home to cross the plate for the only run of the game
- The Runnin' Bulldogs did threaten in the top of the seventh as Perry walked with one out
- Perry was out on a force out but a two out single down the line put runners at first and second
- Watson finished it off with a strikeout to end the game
EXTRA BASES
- McCall stole multiple bases in a single-game for the 10th time this season
- Watson's shutout was the second of the season and 8th of her career
- Kaitlyn Tucker extended her hitting streak to four games and Warren extended streak of reaching base to six games
- Eagles have now won six of their last seven home games
