CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Eagles downed the Charleston Southern Buccaneers Tuesday night, 13-5, behind
Dillon Morton's career-high four RBI. The Eagles are now 11-16 overall, with an 8-11 record against Big South opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Andrew Jenner drew a one-out walk to give the Eagles a base runner, before
Spencer Yankle singled to short in the next at-bat. On a balk, Jenner and Yankle both advanced.

Dillon Morton doubled in the next at-bat to bring both baserunners home and jump ahead, 2-0.
•
Ty Hooks singled in his first plate appearance to advance Morton to third, who would come home on a
Scout McFalls-single in the next at-bat to take a 3-0 lead.
• Hooks came home on a fielding error during
Joey Tepper's at-bat to close out the top of the 1st, 4-0.
•
Parker Whittle struck out the first batter he faced before walked Tyrell Brewer on a full count.
• Kyle Sandstrom singled to left center, putting Brewer in scoring position.
• Sam Trend-Beacom flew out deep to right, allowing Brewer to tag and score, putting CSU on the board, 4-1.
• The second and third inning went down quietly for both sides with the score remaining 4-1.

Joe McNamara and
Joey Tepper singled back-to-back to lead-off the top of the 4th inning.
• Both runners advanced to scoring position when
Tyler Baker grounded out in the next at-bat.
• McNamara came home on a passed ball.
Jonathan Strauss, who came in to pinch hit for
Luke Hannum, flew out deep to right, allowing Tepper to tag up from third to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead after four innings.
• Yankle doubled to lead-off the top of the 5th inning before Morton and Hooks both walked to load up the bases with no outs.
• McFalls and McNamara flew out in back-to-back at-bats, scoring Yankle and Morton to take an 8-1 lead.

Joey Tepper then smashed a two-out double to score Hooks.

Tyler Baker followed that up with a single of his own to score Tepper and give the Eagles a 10-1 edge.
• After getting two quick outs in the bottom of the 5th, Whittle hit Dylan Stewart with a pitch before walking Alex Andronica.
Dalton Mims came in in relief and gave up a single to Brewer to score Stewart and make it a 10-2 game after five innings.
• Winthrop added another run in the top of the 6th off a solo homer off the bat of
Dillon Morton.

Scout McFalls led off the top of the 7th with a triple and came home in the next at-bat off a deep single off the bat of
Joe McNamara extend the Eagles lead, 12-2.
• Winthrop scored once again in the top of the 8th when
Jonathan Strauss, who led off the inning with a single, came home when Morton hit a deep single up the middle for his fourth RBI of the night, 13-2.

Dalton Mims pitched 2.1 scoreless innings before
Reese Lumpkin took over on the mound in the bottom of the 8th inning.
• Lumpkin recorded two quick groundouts before walking Christian Maggio on a full count and giving up a double to the next batter he faced, Reid Hardwick, scoring Maggio to make it a 13-3 game.
• Connor Aldrich laced the second pitch he saw up the middle scoring Hardwick, before Stewart tripled, bringing home Aldrich to cut Winthrop's lead to eight, 13-5, after eight innings.

Willie Lumpkin came in to pitch the 9th and successfully pitched around a one-out, bases loaded jam to secure the 13-5 win for the Eagles.
