Weixlmann Deals, Eagles Defeat PC For Series Sweep

Rock Hill, S.C. — For a second straight game, Aisha Weixlmann tossed a complete game shutout to lead Winthrop to a 2-0 victory and a series sweep over Presbyterian College, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Taylor Charlton led off the second inning when a homerun to left field on the second pitch she saw for a 1-0 lead
  • In the top third inning, Macy McCall took a 3-2 pitch over the fence in center to lead off the inning for a 2-0 lead
  • That was all the offense Aisha Weixlmann needed as she tossed a complete game allowing just three hits, no walks and striking out four
  • Weixlmann gave up two hits in the first inning and then retired the side in order the next five innings before giving up a leadoff single in the top of the seventh
  • Not bothered by the leadoff single Weixlmann recorded three straight outs including a strikeout to end the game 
EXTRA BASES
  • McCall had a stolen base in the fifth inning to break the program's single-season record as she nabbed her 34th of the season
  • McCall breaks the previous mark of 33 set by Susan Funderburk in 1995
  • In the three series against PC the Eagles were 9-for-19 leading off an inning
  • Winthrop's two homeruns on the day gives the team 37 for the season, which ranks 6th all-time for a single-season and is 10 back of 5th place
  • Charlton's homer extended her streak of reaching base safely to nine games, which is the team's top active streak
  • Weixlmann now has a streak of 17.1 innings without allowing a run and in that span has allowed nine hits while walking two and striking out 15

Winthrop steps away from Big South Conference action as it will travel on Tuesday to take on 18th-ranked Clemson in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
