ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop came out on top against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers Tuesday night, 4-1, behind seven solid innings on the mound from
Willie Lumpkin. The freshman struck out three, giving up just one earned run en route to the team's first home conference win.
The Eagles improve to 6-6 on the season and have won three of their last five contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles struck first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first, one off a fielder's choice that scored Luke Hannum from third and an Andrew Jenner single that brought home Dillon Morton.
- After Winthrop's two-run first inning, both teams were scoreless through the third inning.
- The Eagles struck again in the bottom of the 4th inning. Andrew Jenner led the inning off with a walk, followed by a Ty Hooks-single to left field. Jenner advanced to third on a wild pitch to get himself in scoring position.
- Matt Levenson flew out deep to center field, enough for Jenner to tag up and come home, putting Winthrop ahead, 3-0.
- Both pitchers settled in, putting up back-to-back scoreless innings in the 5th and 6th.
- Charleston Southern's Andrew Bullock led off the 7th inning with a blast to right field, scoring the Bucs only run of the night.
- The Eagles would respond in their half of the 7th, getting a run back when Dillon Morton singled, scoring Hannum, who earlier stole second and advanced to third on Joey Tepper's fly-out.
- Lumpkin exited the contest with a 4-1 lead after seven innings. He was relieved by Aaron White, who only faced one batter.
- Dalton Mims would come in, striking out the first batter he faced.
- Spencer Yankle threw out CSU's Kyle Sandstrom, before Mims gave up a triple to Houston Parker. He got the next batter to ground out, getting out of trouble with no damage done.
- Colten Rendon recorded his second save of the season, after sitting down the middle of Charleston Southern's lineup, 1-2-3, to secure the 4-1 win.

The Eagles will host USC Upstate on Mar. 26-27. Friday is a single game set to begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday is a double-header with opening pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 1 p.m.
