Eagles Set To Take On Radford Feb. 5-6

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's basketball looks to keep it's win streak alive when they welcome the Radford Highlanders to the Coliseum Feb. 5-6. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. with all the action streamed on ESPN+. The Eagles will wear pink this weekend to honor and show support for those affected by breast cancer.

SERIES HISTORY
Radford leads the all-time series over the Eagles, 61-16. Winthrop will look to snap a 10-game losing streak against the Highlanders. In 2019-20, the Eagles lost a heartbreaker at the Dedmon Center, 54-53, before falling at home 56-50 later in the season. 

WINTHROP EAGLES
The Eagles enter the series against the Highlanders on a three game winning streak after taking one from Hampton and sweeping Charleston Southern at home on Jan. 29-30. Myra Strickland was electric from deep, going 8-of-17 in two games, leading the team with 19 and 18 points respectively. Her offensive performance in the two conference wins earned her Big South Player of the Week honors. In Game 1, Sierra Hunter also finished in double-figures with a career-high 11 points. Anika Riley and Strickland each grabbed six boards. In Game 2, Tori Hall was 5-of-6 on the afternoon, 3-of-4 from deep, recording a career-high 13 points. Hunter led with eight rebounds. This is Winthrop's first multi-game win streak since defeating Longwood and Charleston Southern on Jan. 21 and 25 during the 2019-20 season. 

NEW LEADER AT THE HELM
Semeka Randall Lay has taken over the Winthrop women's basketball program after serving as Associate Head Coach last season. Randall Lay in a 2000 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she was an integral part of Tennessee's 1998 NCAA Championship team that went 39-0, averaging 15.9 points a game while earning honorable mention All-America recognition. She was drafted 17th overall in the 2001 WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm and spent four years in the league. Randall Lay brings eight years of head coaching experience with an overall career record of 67-176.

MILESTONE TRACKER
Anika Riley has taken sole possession of 10th place on the program's all-time rebounds list. She now has 711 rebounds in her career. The senior only needs five to take sole possession of 9th all-time and eight to take sole possession of 8th most all-time. Graduate transfer Madison Ervin needs 116 points this season to record her 1,000 collegiate career point. She has made stops at Mars Hill, Cape Fear Community College and Georgia State. Junior Maleeah Langstaff is coming up on her 100th career assist, needing just seven more to reach that milestone. 

RADFORD HIGHLANDERS 
Selected to finish second in the Big South preseason poll, the Highlanders enter the weekend's contests with a 4-7 overall record and a 4-5 mark against Big South opponents. Three of Radford's five nonconference matchups were canceled, with the team suffering loses to North Carolina and Marshall. The Highlanders split conference series with Presbyterian and UNC Asheville before sweeping USC Upstate in their latest set of games. Bryonna McClean led the team, recording double-figures in both games against the Spartans, 10 and 11 respectively. Senior Tina Lindenfeld leads the team averaging 9.1 points per game, with sophomore Taiye Johnson leading the way on the boards with 59 rebounds on the season, averaging 5.4 a contest. Mike McGuire is in his 8th year as head coach of the Highlanders and has racked up an impressive 137-94 all-time record. Radford comes to Rock Hill on a two-game win streak, winning three of its last five matchups.
