Eagles Shut Down Camels In Four Sets Sunday Afternoon

ROCK HILL, SC – The Eagles handed Campbell its first loss of the young season with a win in four sets.  Winthrop won the first two, 26-24, 25-23 before dropping the third set, 25-21. The Eagles halted a late comeback by the Camels in the fourth set to secure the 27-25 win to take the match.

Set 1
Campbell opened the match with a quick 4-1 lead over the Eagles. The set was tied up at five off a Camels service error. The Eagles had a narrow 15-13 lead before an 8-0 run for Campbell gave them 21-15 lead. The Eagles ended the set with 10-2 run to sneak away with the 26-24 win.
 
Set 2
The second set was another back and forth battle. This set saw five ties and two lead changes. The Eagles and Camels exchanged 4-0 runs late in the set to give Winthrop a 23-19 edge.
Back-to-back attack errors by the Eagles brought Campbell within two points of tying things up. Following the timeout, an attack error on Campbell's side gave the Eagles the set point, winning, 25-23.
 
Set 3
Set 3 was a close one early on with both teams exchanging points. The Camels started to pull away with a 3-0 run to make a 20-15 lead. The Eagles continued to battle and back-to-back kills made it a 24-21 contest but the Camels would steal the win with a Madee Miner kill.
 
Set 4
The fourth set was a battle that came down to the wire. This set saw 10 ties and four lead changes throughout. Back-to-back attack errors tied things at 25 and then gave them the 26-25 edge. The set and match was secured off a Jessica Young kill.  
 
UP NEXT
Winthrop will welcome Gardner-Webb to Rock Hill on Mar. 4-5 for a two-game set. Match 1 is set to begin at 2 p.m., while Match 2 will begin at 6 p.m. Winthrop has won eight of the last 10 meetings with the Runnin' Bulldogs.
