Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop softball captured a 5-2 win over Mount St. Mary's and 3-2 win over Tennessee Tech on the final day of the Winthrop Garnet/Gold Classic, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Mount St. Mary's
- Eagles jumped on the Mount early as Madyson Watson singled with two outs and then Ansley Gilreath drove her home with a double
- Gilreath doubled the lead at 2-0 with a solo homer in the 3rd inning
- Macy McCall got things started in the 5th inning as she drew a leadoff walk and then stole second
- Lauren King followed with a single to right, scoring McCall
- Two batters later, Gilreath stood in and homered to left for a 5-0 lead
- The Mount got two back I the sixth as Godde and Donovan started the inning with back-to-back homeruns
- Watson finished with a career-high 17 strikeouts and walked just one batter in a complete game effort and improved to 3-3
WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Tennessee Tech
- Eagles used the long ball to earn their second win of the day
- After Tennessee Tech took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Winthrop answered with two runs in the bottom half
- McCall led off with a single and then stole second before King stepped in and homered to left center
- Ashley Westbrooks led off the second inning with a homerun for a 3-1 lead
- The Golden Eagles did get within a run in the sixth when Nicolle Nysted hit a solo shot to lead off the inning
- Aisha Weixlmann worked a 1-2-3 seventh to get the win in the circle, her fourth on the year as she allowed the two runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- Watson now has 48 strikeouts and just five walks in the last 26.1 innings pitched
- Watson passed Brianne McKnight for 9th on the all-time strikeout list with 325 and is now one back of 8th place
- Westbrooks hit her 22nd career homerun as she's now tied for 6th all-time at Winthrop and is now just two hits shy of 13th on the all-time hit list
- McCall has reached base in 12 straight games and also has a team-high 10 stolen bases

Winthrop has a midweek contest as it heads down to Columbia, S.C. on Wednesday, Mar. 3 for a 6 p.m. matchup with South Carolina.
