Women's Golf Opens 2021 Season At Amelia Island Collegiate

Rock Hill, S.C.— It's almost been a full year since the Winthrop women's golf team was in action as it will head to Florida to open the 2021 season at the Amelia Island Collegiate.

Course: Amelia Island Golf Club (Par 72 (36-36) / 6,029 yards)
Format: 54-Hole Tournament (Monday – 36 holes / Tuesday – 18 holes)
Tee Times: Monday – 8 a.m. shotgun / Tuesday – 8:30 a.m. shotgun
Tournament Field: Charleston Southern, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Presbyterian College, Seminole State, South Dakota, Winthrop, Wofford

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES

This is the 8^th Annual Amelia Island Collegiate and the Eagles have participated every year
The team's best finish at the event came in the inaugural tournament in 2014 as the Eagles finished 5^th
All of the players that competed in 2020 are back for the 2021 season
Sarah Funderburg averaged a team-low 76.82 average while Whitney Carter was next at 78.41 and Sabrina Fonda at 79.14
Carter was the top finisher for the Eagles at the 2020 Amelia Island Collegiate as she finished T35 (+9)
During the second round, Carter aced the Par 3 6^th hole and in the final round shot 1-under
Freshman Valentine Savioz has qualified for her first collegiate event
The Eagles got two events completed in the spring before the season shutdown for the COVID-19 pandemic
The format for the event will have the Eagles playing in a twosome and a threesome within their own team
