Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball will play its first home match in over a year when they host USC Upstate on Feb. 11-12. Match times are set for 6 p.m. on Thursday and 1 p.m. on Friday.

SERIES HISTORY
The Eagles and Spartans have met six times in history with Winthrop winning five of those matchups. Winthrop's lone loss to USC Upstate came on Sept. 1, 2015 in Spartanburg. In 2019, the Eagles swept Upstate, 3-1 and 3-2, during the season series en route to a perfect 14-0 conference record.
WINTHROP EAGLES
The Eagles will be looking for their first win of 2020-21 after dropping both games against Charleston Southern, 3-0, 3-1.
Freshman
Brookelynn Thomas had a great showing in her first bit of collegiate action, posting 21 kills, a team-high, and 10 blocks.
Nikkia Benitez and
Morgan Bossler also were key contributors with 21 kills apiece, with Benitez tallying 34 digs and Bossler leading with five service aces.
Jana Owens led the team with 46 assists.
USC UPSTATE
Upstate opened their season against 2019 Big South Conference Runner-Up, Campbell, losing both matches in three sets.
The Spartans had multiple players step up against the Camels with five different players leading in key statistical categories after opening weekend.
Briana Strobert led the Spartans in kills, tallying 13 on the weekend, while Mackenzie Marcum had 26 digs to open the season. Bruna Avila had 24 assists. Alexis Mareka had six blocks and Kelly Wiedemann had a team-high five service aces.
BIG SOUTH SEASON & TOURNAMENT
The 2021 spring season will be a 16-match double round-robin slate spanning nine weeks from Feb. 3-April 2, with contests scheduled for consecutive days against the same opponent at the same location. This year's regular-season champion will earn the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
