BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Looking to advance to the finals of the Big South tournament for the second time in three seasons, Winthrop fell to host Campbell in three sets, ending their 2021 season.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Winthrop took an early 4-2 lead on a block from
Morgan Bossler. The Camels then won four straight points to regain the lead and kept that until the Eagles tied the set at 16 on a
Nikkia Benitez kill. Later, trailing 18-16, Winthrop surged to a three point lead with a 5-0 run and led 23-20 when
Karli Shepherd hammered down a kill. However, homestanding Campbell won six of the last seven points to take a 26-24 victory and a 1-0 lead.
Set 2 | The Eagles battled hard in the second set as they and the Camels each won five of the first ten points. Winthrop won four of the next seven points and took a 9-8 lead on a
Brookelynn Thomas kill. The teams traded points when, with Campbell leading 14-12, the Eagles won four consecutive points to take the lead. The Camels came back to lead 20-18 and won five of the last eight points for a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3 | Campbell took an early 4-0 lead in the final set as they looked to sweep the Eagles out of the postseason. Winthrop won six of eight points to tie the set at six apiece and eventually took an 11-10 lead on a solo block from Bossler. The Camels took the lead back before the Eagles tied it at 16. However, the home team won nine of the last ten points to take the sweep and advance to the championship match.
