Eagles Going For 3rd Straight Win At Longwood Wednesday Night

Rock Hill, S.C.— Winthrop is looking for its first 2-0 start to Big South play since 2015, taking on Longwood in its first league road contest Wednesday night.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS LONGWOOD
This marks the 15th meeting all-time as Winthrop holds a 12-2 lead in the all-time series. The last meeting came on Mar. 29 in Rock Hill as the Lancers pulled off a 2-1 victory. After Winthrop had tied the match in the 88th minute, Longwood scored with 1:03 remaining for the win. Eagles are 4-1 all-time at Longwood.  
FOOT NOTES
  • Have won two straight games as the Eagles face their first road contest in league play
  • Both the Eagles and Lancers are unbeaten in conference play
  • The last three trips to Longwood the Eagles have earned one goal victories
  • Eagles are 2-1 on the road this season with wins at Stetson and Furman
  • Freshman Ethan Stevenson and sophomore Bryant Jimenez-Pearce lead the Eagles in scoring with nine points each
  • They are both tied for 2nd in the Big South in points per game and assists per game as well as 4th in goals per game

  • Daniel Ridenhour is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach 

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Sean Green's goal on the kickoff following the Stetson goal is ranked in the Top 5 all-time at the NCAA D1 level for the fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams. In the spring of 2021, Winthrop scored 12 seconds into the game at South Carolina as Jonathan Foster netted one of the quickest goals in program history.
 
BIG SOUTH AWARDS
Ethan Stevenson – Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 4)
  • Had a hand in five of the team's seven goals on the week in two victories
  • Scored the game-winner in the win over Mercer and set up the third goal of the match
  • In the 4-0 win over Asheville he was involved with three of the goals
 Brigham Larsen – Freshman of the Week (Sept. 13)
  • Scored two second half goals in the 3-1 win over Furman that included the game-winner in the 58th minute
  • Continuing to apply pressure offensively, Larsen added an insurance goal in the 89th minute

LOOKING AHEAD
Winthrop returns home for the weekend as it will host Presbyterian College on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.
