Rock Hill, S.C.— Winthrop men's soccer hosts first-place Campbell Saturday evening looking for a third straight victory.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS CAMPBELL
This will be the 28
th meeting between Winthrop and Campbell. The Camels lead the all-time series 6-21 and 16-4 in league matchups. The last time these two teams met in the spring the Eagles fell 6-0. The last home games Campbell was in 2019 as the Eagles found the net in the 15
th minute for the lead, but Campbell scored three goals in the final 25 minutes for a 3-1 victory.
FOOT NOTES
- Eagles have won two straight and four of the last five games
- Rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory at USC Upstate on Wednesday
- It was the sixth time this season the Eagles posted at least three goals in a game
- Winthrop hasn't allowed a goal at home in the 195 minutes overall and hasn't allowed a goal in conference play at home in nearly 267 minutes
- It is the first back-to-back home shutouts in league play for the first time since 2013
- Of the team's six wins this season, four of them are by multiple goals
- It's the most multiple goal victories in a single-season since the 2015 squad had five

- Campbell ranks 6th nationally in scoring while the Eagles are tied for 9th
- Brigham Larsen is coming off a two-goal game and leads the team with seven goals
- Larsen has scored in three straight games and is tied with Campbell's Tyler Young for the league-lead in goals with seven
- Larsen also ranks 1st in goals per game and 2nd in points per game
- Ethan Stevenson and Jonathan Foster ared tied for 7th in the conference in points per game while Foster is tied for 6th in goals
- Stevens is tied for fourth in the league in assists
- This game marks the 930th in the history of the program with 452 wins all-time
- Daniel Ridenhour is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Sean Green's goal on the kickoff following the Stetson goal is ranked in the Top 5 all-time at the NCAA D1 level for the fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams. In the spring of 2021, Winthrop scored 12 seconds into the game at South Carolina as
Jonathan Foster netted one of the quickest goals in program history.
BIG SOUTH AWARDS
Ethan Stevenson – Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 4)
- Had a hand in five of the team's seven goals on the week in two victories
- Scored the game-winner in the win over Mercer and set up the third goal of the match
- In the 4-0 win over Asheville he was involved with three of the goals
Brigham Larsen – Freshman of the Week (Sept. 13 / Oct. 11)
- Scored two second half goals in the 3-1 win over Furman that included the game-winner in the 58th minute
- Continuing to apply pressure offensively, Larsen added an insurance goal in the 89th minute
- Earned Freshman of the Week honors a second time when he scored in a 3-2 loss at Longwood and then netted the game-winning goal in the 4-0 win over PC
LOOKING AHEAD
Winthrop will step away from Big South Conference action as it heads to Blacksburg, Va. on Tuesday, Oct. 19 for a 6 p.m. matchup with 5th-ranked Virginia Tech.
