League of Legends To Open Fall 2020 Remotely in HUE Invitational

Rock Hill, S.C. – After an incredible inaugural season in which they were ranked as high as number four nationally, Winthrop's League of Legends team kicks off their fall 2020 season remotely Saturday in the Harrisburg University Esports Invitational.
 
This will be the second consecutive season that Winthrop opens their season in the HUE Invitational.  Last season, the Eagles League of Legends team finished 3-2 in the tournament with two losses coming to the host school, Harrisburg.
 
After that impressive debut tournament, Winthrop proved to be one of the best teams in the country reaching the finals of ASU GSV 2020 and as high as 4th in the ESPN College League of Legends Coaches Poll.  Each of Winthrop's six League players from the spring semester return in what should be an exciting season.
 
Winthrop was drawn into group C of this year's HUE Invitational alongside the University of California-Irvine A, Michigan and Illinois Wesleyan University B. Saturday's schedule sees the Eagles in action at 1, 2, and 3 p.m.  Depending on the results of those matches, Winthrop could play again at 4 p.m. in the round of 16. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the round of 8, followed by the final 4 and championship.
