Esports Defeats #1 Maryville, Falls in Grand Finals to #3 Harrisburg

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop's exciting run in ASU+GSV 2020 concluded Sunday when the team fell to #3 Harrisburg 3-0 in the Grand Finals after a huge victory over #1 Maryville on Saturday.
 
Winthrop League of Legends entered the weekend at a perfect 4-0 in ASU+GSV 2020 action from back in January.  The Eagles semifinal matchup saw them take on Maryville University who are currently ranked #1 in ESPN's latest Collegiate League of Legends Coaches Poll.  While Winthrop was clearly the underdog, the Eagles prevailed and defeated Maryville, 2-0.
 
Sunday's Grand Finals saw Winthrop take on #3 Harrisburg in a best-of-5 match.  The Eagles and Storm have a history, as the teams met earlier in ASU+GSV 2020 action with Winthrop winning, 2-0.  Despite having the momentum after defeating Maryville Saturday, Winthrop fell the Harrisburg, 3-0. 
 
Despite the loss, progressing all the way to the Grand Finals is quite the accomplishment for a first-year program.  The victory over Maryville was Winthrop's first over the Saints in any competition and firmly establishes Winthrop as a force to be reckoned with in the Collegiate League of Legends landscape.
