Esports Returns To Action In ASU GSV 2020

Rock Hill, S.C. – After nearly a month off from competing, Winthrop's League of Legends team takes on Maryville University in the ASU GSV 2020 Winners Finals Saturday.
 
Winthrop's run in the ASU GSV tournament has been one of the highlights of the athletics department's spring as the team went undefeated in the early portion of 2020.  Wins over UT Dallas, Harrisburg, Grand View and Arizona State back in January earned Winthrop a spot in the winner's finals against Maryville.  The winner of that match will head to the grand finals on Sunday against the winner of the loser's bracket.
 
Maryville enters the matchup ranked #1 in ESPN's College League of Legends Coaches poll and was the odds-on favorite to win the competition.  Winthrop and Maryville have faced off in Overwatch, but this will be the first time the two teams are meeting in League of Legends.
