CLINTON, S.C. – Winthrop women's basketball struggled offensively, falling 88-54 to the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Wednesday night. The Eagles fall to 11-17 overall with an 8-11 conference record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Hose went on a 12-0 run off back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers to take a quick 14-2 lead. The Eagles were held to just six first-quarter points and trailed by 13 after 10 minutes to play. Winthrop picked up the pace in the second, with six of its 15 points coming at the hands of freshman
Myra Strickland. Presbyterian posted 26 second-quarter points, taking a commanding 45-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. The third quarter ended with each team posting 19 points with the Eagles trailing by 24 with just 10 to play. With 4:21 remaining in the game, PC took its largest lead of the night, 38 points, off two good free throws from Jade Compton. The Eagles went on a 7-2 run to close out the contest but the deficit was too large. Winthrop finished the game shooting 47 percent from the field, 17 percent from 3-point range and 36 percent from the line.

Winthrop women's basketball will finish off the regular season Saturday afternoon with a contest against the Upstate Spartans. When the Eagles traveled to the G.B. Hodge Center they left with a 52-38 win.
Miquela Santoro led the offensive efforts with 14 points.

Kem Nwabudu totaled double-figures with 11 points apiece. Nwabudu also grabbed a game-high 9 boards. For the Spartans, Quadijah Moore led with 12 points. Winthrop applied the defensive pressure, holding the Spartans to single-digit points in three of the four quarters played, allowing a season-low 38 points. Saturday will also be Senior Day at the Winthrop Coliseum, where we will honor and recognize three seniors:
