Winthrop Athletics Announces Comporium as Presenting Sponsor of Esports Program

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop Athletics has announced Comporium as the Official Presenting Sponsor of Winthrop's Esports program.

"Plainly stated, this Esports Program would not exist today had it not been for the tremendous support from Comporium," said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Ken Halpin.  "The success this team has experienced thus far is directly related to the support they've provided in helping build this nationally relevant program."

As part of the partnership, Comporium will have their logo featured on the Eagles jerseys that the team members will wear during competition. The new Winthrop Esports lab will also be outfitted with signage featuring Comporium logos and messaging.  Other branding opportunities will include representation on the Winthrop Esports social media outlets and on the Official Winthrop Esports team Twitch channel, so that supporters of Esports may tune in to the team's competition and progress all year long.

"I am excited for us to partner with a great local business like Comporium," said coach Josh Sides. "Their reliable network and support services provide exactly what we need to compete at our best."

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Comporium, Matthew Dosch, could not be more excited for the partnership. "Our customers love to use our broadband network for gaming, so we couldn't think of a better way to express our support for Winthrop athletics than by sponsoring the Esports team," Dosch said.  "It's amazing what coach Sides has already done with the program – we can't wait to see where it goes from here."

Winthrop Esports is off to a great start in 2020, and with this partnership, things should only go up from here.  The Eagles League of Legends team has yet to lose in the new year and are currently ranked #4 in the country in ESPN's College League of Legends Coaches Poll.

Winthrop's Overwatch team is set to open their spring 2020 season soon after recording some big wins in the fall over Harrisburg, Ohio State, and UCF among others.
