LAST TIME OUT
In their first meeting this season, the Eagles fell to the Bulldogs at home, 50-43.
Jah'Che Whitfield led the Eagles with 15 points, while
Myra Strickland contributed 14 of Winthrop's 16 bench points. The freshman finished 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Nadiria Evans notched a game-high 16 points, while Sonora Dengokl recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Eagles currently lead the all-time series 39-36 but have struggling in recent history, losing nine of the last 10 contests.
WINTHROP
The Eagles are coming off a 62-48 road loss to the Hampton Pirates on Tuesday night. The contest was close through the first three quarters of play. Winthrop trailed by one at halftime, 30-29, and by three going into the final 10 minutes of play. Hampton applied the pressure in the fourth quarter, holding the Eagles to just eight points. Winthrop struggled to protect the ball in the final 10 minutes, turning the ball over 11 times. 15 of Hampton's 19 fourth-quarter points came off turnovers. A 9-2 run to end the game secured the win for the Pirates.
Jah'Che Whitfield led the team's offensive efforts for the second consecutive game with 16 points. The sophomore finished 4-of-11 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line.
Kem Nwabudu finished with 10 points of her own,
Anika Riley contributed a game-high 10 rebounds.
UNC ASHEVILLE
The Bulldogs are coming off a 64-48 road win over Presbyterian on Tuesday night. Before defeating PC, Asheville was on a three-game losing streak, with its last win coming at the Winthrop Coliseum on Jan. 28. Four Bulldogs finished in double figures, led by Sonora Dengokl
who led all scorers with 19 points. Nadiria Evans finished with 17, Brooke Jordan-Brown contributed 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Zip Scott notched 10 points of her own. Jordan-Brown currently leads the conference, averaging 10.1 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs led by as many as 22 points as they won their seventh conference game of the season
500-REBOUND CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER
Anika Riley eclipsed 500 career rebounds during Winthrop's game against Gardner-Webb on Monday, Jan. 6. The junior guard is the 18th player in Winthrop women's basketball history to record 500+ career rebounds. Riley is ranked seventh in the conference, averaging 6.9 boards a game and currently has 569 in her career.
