HIGH POINT, N.C. – Winthrop women's basketball fell to High Point on Saturday afternoon, 94-61. The Eagles are now 9-11 overall, 6-5 in conference play.
The first quarter of Saturday's contest was a one possession game, in favor of High Point, until
Jah'Che Whitfield sank a layup in the paint with 1:56 to go to give Winthrop the lead. The Panthers then went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-14 lead into the second quarter. With seven minutes remaining in the half, Whitfield made two good free throws to chip away at High Point's 13-point lead. The Panthers went into the locker room with a 22 point lead behind a 17-6 run to close the half. Whitfield led Winthrop's offense in the first 20 minutes of play, where she scored all 13 of her points.
In the second half of Saturday's contest, Winthrop still couldn't find a solution for High Point's Camryn Brown. She set a program and conference record with 44 points, going 10-of-16 from 3-point range and 16-of-22 from the field. 26 of her 44 points came in the second half.
The Eagles were outscored in all four quarters and finished the game 39 percent from the field, 31 percent from behind the arc and 82 percent from the line.
