SERIES/HISTORY v. RADFORD
The Eagles and Highlanders will tip off for the 79th time in history on Saturday afternoon. Historically, Winthrop has struggled against the Highlanders. Radford leads the series 62-16 all-time and 53-13 in conference play. Nine of the Eagles 16 wins have come on the road but Radford has walked away with a win nine of the last 10 meetings. During the 2018-19 season, the eventual Big South Conference champions defeated the Eagles both times, by 21 and 22 points respectively. Winthrop is off to its best start since the 2014-15 season and will look to beat Radford for the first time since February 17, 2015.
WINTHROP
On Tuesday, the Eagles suffered their second conference loss of the season, this time to Campbell, 63-47.
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield was the team's leading scorer with nine points.
Jah'Che Whitfield contributed seven points of her own and a team-high seven rebounds. The Eagles were held to just 12 points in the first half and despite opening the second half with a 10-0 run, Campbell's lead was too much to recover from. Winthrop is shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 38.7 from 3-point – leading the conference – and has its best start in five seasons.
RADFORD
The Highlanders are coming off a big 62-61 win over Longwood on Tuesday. Radford was led by Khiana Johnson who recorded a career-high 20 points, shooting 75 percent from 3-point range. Sydney Nunley recorded 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, the 15th of her career. The reigning BSC champions are led by seventh year head coach, Mike McGuire, and are currently 3-3 in conference play, 5-10 overall. The Highlanders will look to improve to 3-3 at home this season when they host Winthrop on Saturday.
500-REBOUND CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER
Anika Riley eclipsed 500 career rebounds during Winthrop's game against Gardner-Webb on Monday, Jan. 6. The junior guard is the 18th player in Winthrop women's basketball history to record 500+ career rebounds. Riley is ranked fifth in the conference, averaging 6.9 boards a game.
