ROCK HILL, SC - After dropping a close contest to Radford to open Big South play, Winthrop women's soccer will travel to Gardner-Webb Wednesday night before returning to Rock Hill for its home conference opener hosting Campbell on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell 1-0 to Radford Saturday night from a late Highlanders goal to fall to 2-4 overall on the season and 0-1 in Big South play.
Last season, Winthrop defeated Gardner-Webb in the regular season 1-0 at Eagle Field thanks to a game winning goal in the 68th minute from
Allie Thomas. The two teams would meet again in the Big South Tournament to a different result, as the second seeded Runnin' Bulldogs defeated the seventh seeded Eagles 4-0. Despite dropping the most recent meeting, Winthrop has won seven of the last ten meetings dating back to the 2010 season.
In 2018, Winthrop lost by a 2-1 margin to Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. with the Eagles' goal coming from
Arryana Daniels. Winthrop looks for its first win over the Camels since October 17, 2015 when the Eagles won 1-0 at Eagle Field.
