Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball has a quick turnaround after beating Elon in straight sets last night. They have just one day to rest before hosting Furman and Appalachian State in a round-robin this week. The Eagles take on Furman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday inside the Coliseum. Furman and Appalachian State will play a noon match on Friday at the Coliseum, and then Winthrop and Appalachian State will finish out the tournament on Friday evening.

Furman
Furman has struggled this preseason with a slate of top ranked opponents. The Paladins are just 0-8 and have been swept in half of their matches. They have losses to ACC members Virginia and Wake Forest, as well as Big South foe, High Point. The Paladins were picked 3
rd overall in the Southern Conference after finishing the 2018 season 13-16 overall with a second-round exit in the conference tournament. Nicole Mack has been leading the Paladin offense with 3.00 kills per set.
Furman leads the all-time record 22-18 but in their last match-up (2018) the Eagles beat the Paladins 3-1 at Furman.
Appalachian State
Appalachian State has seen ups and downs this preseason, playing a schedule heavy with Power-5 teams. They lost to #24 Arizona in the first match of the season and then lost to Duke and Clemson in week two and Iowa State and NC State last weekend. The Mountaineers were picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference preseason polls, with three players named All-Sun Belt. Emma Longley leads the way for the Mountaineers, the senior outside hitter picked up her 1,000
thcareer kill against Iowa State. Longley added 22 more kills the next match against NC State.
Appalachian State leads the all-time record with the Eagles, 25-23; their last matchup was in 2018 and resulted in a 3-0 win for the Mountaineers.
Catching Up With The Eagles
Last night's win over Elon was the Eagle's third straight road sweep and moves them to 6-3 overall. They have not lost a set since the second week of play when they lost a nail biting five-set match to Ohio University. Kia Benitez led the Eagles last night with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Siani Yamaguchi continues to lead her team with efficient set accuracy; she finished with 32 assists, 11 digs, and set her team to a .324 hitting efficiency. Bossler finished with nine kills and completed her fourth match with one attacking error or less, with just one error on the night. Bossler also added a team high three blocks to her stat sheet.
