Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball heads to Elon University tomorrow for a mid-week match against the Phoenix. The Eagles are currently on a two-match win streak after sweeping Southern Miss and Georgia Southern last weekend. After three weeks of play, the Eagles are leading the conference standings with a one game edge over Campbell and UNC-Asheville.

A Look at Elon
The Phoenix have a 4-5 overall record after three weeks of play. They are currently on a three-game win streak after starting the season 1-5. One of those games was a five-set win over Wake Forest; this was Elon's first win against a Power-5 opponent since 2004. Offensively, Elon has been led by sophomore Leah Daniel, a 6'1 outside hitter. Daniel has 145 total kills this season, 4.03 kills per set. She had a season high 27 kills against Manhattan and has posted 20+ kill performances in three matches.
On the defensive side, 6-3 middle blocker, Jenn Krzeminski, has 35 total blocks and 1.21 blocks per set. Isabella Seman leads the Phoenix in digs with 126 total digs; her season high was 28 digs in a five-set loss to Davidson.
Catching Up With The Eagles
Over the weekend, the Eagles made quick work of Southern Miss and Georgia Southern at the Georgia Southern Invitational.
Morgan Bossler finished with 16 kills, half of which she scored in the opening set.
Makayla Doyle finished the match with 11 kills and no errors, hitting a .478. Bossler and Doyle hold the top two spots in the Big South for hitting efficiency, .337 and .324 respectively.
Against Georgia Southern, the Eagles used long runs to control the lead throughout the match. The opening set saw a 12-0 run which lead to a 16-5 lead. Doyle had a near perfect set with 4 kills, no errors, on five attempts. Kia Benitez led the charge with 15 kills (.355) and 11 digs, she was named the tournament MVP. Joining her on the All-Tournament team was Doyle and
Siani Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi leads the conference in total assists and assists per set, as well as helping her team to the number one spot for team hitting efficiency.
Looking Ahead
The Eagles return home this weekend for their final matches of the preseason. They host Furman and Appalachian State in a round robin tournament. Winthrop will begin with Furman on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and finish with Appalachian State on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Appalachian State and Furman will play a noon match at the Coliseum on Friday. Big South play kicks off next weekend.
