Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball begins the 2019 season this weekend by hosting the Cristi Curtis Invitational at the Winthrop Coliseum. The Eagles open the tournament with a 1:00 p.m. match against Morehead State on Friday, and finish the day with a 7:00 p.m. match against Davidson. They complete the tournament with one match on Saturday against North Carolina A&T at 1:00 p.m.

This will be the first time Winthrop will play Morehead since losing 3-0 in 2008. Like the Eagles, Morehead was picked third in Ohio Valley Conference preseason polls and had three all conference selections in setter, Chandler Clark, and outside hitters Olivia Lohmeier and Lauren Rokey.
Lohmeier was the OVC player of the year in 2018 and led the team with 413 kills (3.69 p/s). Rokey was second with 310 kills and ranked 6^thin the OVC. 
 
Davidson is coming off an 12-13 2018 season and finished just 5-9 in conference play. Setter and right side, Mason Rooney, will lead the Wildcats this season; Rooney was named 2^ndTeam All-Conference in the Atlantic 10 in 2018. Davidson leads the all-time record with Winthrop, 20-14, with their last match up ending with a 3-0 Winthrop win in 2016. 
 
Last Season NC A&T went 12-11 overall but reached the MEAC title match, losing to four-time defending champion Howard University. The Aggies return a majority of their key players from the 2018 season, including preseason all-conference selection, Courteney Pitt. The Eagles are 20-0 all time against the Aggies, including a 3-0 sweep in 2018 to end preseason play.
