FARMVILLE, VA – The Winthrop lacrosse team dropped a 14-4 Big South contest Saturday to the Longwood Lancers, snapping a five-game winning streak.
Winthrop falls to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in the conference with the loss while Longwood improved to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the Big South.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides traded goals in the opening five minutes and then Longwood scored three unanswered goals over a more than 14-minute span to take a 4-1 lead. Scoring picked up over the final 10 minutes as Winthrop grabbed two goals to come within 5-3 with 6:38 left in the half. The Lancers closed the half on a 4-0 run over the final five minutes to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
Longwood opened the second half with a goal in the first minute and pushed its lead to 11-3 before Winthrop scored its only goal of the second half. Longwood added three more goals to reach the 14-4 final score.

Winthrop returns home for its final two conference games of the season. The Eagles will host Radford on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before welcoming High Point on Saturday.
