CONWAY, SC— Winthrop softball suffered a 6-4 loss at Coastal Carolina Wednesday afternoon as Kassidy Smith hit a walk-off two-run homerun.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles fell behind in the first as Stavi Augur hit a two-run homerun to left center
- Madyson Watson had retired the first two batters but a two-out single by Courtney Dean extended the inning
- The Chanticleers made it 3-0 in the first after an RBI single from Sydney Guess
- Winthrop started the second inning with back-to-back singles and the runners were sacrificed over to second and third
- Ansley Gilreath and Watson both struck out to end the threat
- Watson proceeded to strikeout the side in the bottom of the second as she held the Chanticleers offense in check for the most part during remainder of her appearance
- Eagles broke through in the third inning as Ashley Westbrooks singled down the right field line with two outs and then stole second
- Brooke Ellison stood in and delivered with a double to right center that scored Westbrooks
- In the top of the fourth inning the Eagles took a 4-3 lead
- Taylor Charlton doubled with one out and then moved to third on a fly out to left off the bat of Gilreath
- Watson helped her own cause by driving in Charlton with a single to left center to make it a one-run game
- Walker gave the Eagles a 4-3 lead with a two-run homerun to left center
- Kassidy Smith homered to left with one out in the 5th inning to tie the game at 4-4
- Smith then stepped in with one out and one on and connected for her second homerun of the game, a walk-off two-run shot
EXTRA BASES
- The Eagles finished with six runners left on base while Coastal stranded four
- Westbrooks extended her hitting streak to six games and has reached base in seven straight
- The Eagles had seven hits in the game from seven different batters
ON DECK
Eagles get back to Big South Conference action as they host Gardner-Webb for a weekend series starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. The final game of the series will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
