ROCK HILL, SC –
Mia Creighton scored four goals Saturday but the Winthrop lacrosse team fell at home 16-11 to the Kennesaw State Owls.
The Eagles fall to 0-6 on the year with the loss while Kennesaw State improves to 1-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop opened the scoring, putting two goals in the net in the first four minutes of the contest. Kennesaw State responded, scoring the next four to go up 4-2 with 17:46 left in the half.
McKenna Blick stopped the Owl run with a goal with 15:21 on the clock. Kennesaw State pushed its lead back to three before
Lauren Morris scored with 33 seconds left in the half to bring the Eagles within 6-4 at the break.
Kennesaw State came out strong in the second half, scoring two goals in less than two minutes. Winthrop responded, scoring the next two goals to get back within two with just under 20 minutes to play. Over the remainder of the half, the Eagles could do nothing more than match the Owl's scoring. Winthrop was within three after Morris scored with just over five minutes to play but couldn't manage any more, falling 16-11.

Mia Creighton's team-high four goals came on seven shots.
McKenna Blick added three goals on seven shots and led the team with four ground balls.
Lauren Morris finished with two goals and one assist. Goalie
Alaina Girani finished with 12 saves.
Both teams shot the ball efficiently as the Owls finished with 30 shots with 28 of them on goal while the Eagles finished with 23 total shots with 22 going on frame. Winthrop won the draw-control battle 16-12 but Kennesaw State beat the Eagles on ground balls 15-12.

Winthrop will remain at home for its next contest as the Eagles welcome former Big South foe, Coastal Carolina, to Eagle Field on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
