BUIES CREEK, NC— Keleigh Romine drove in two runs and the Winthrop softball battled until the end but fell 4-3 in the final game of the weekend series at Campbell.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Morgan Lowers got things going with a 1-out single
- Brooke Ellison followed with a double to left center to put runners at second and third
- Keleigh Romine drove in Lowers from third with a ground out to short
- Campbell had a chance to open up the game in the bottom of the second but Majette was able to work out of a jam and keep the game within reach
- Majette hit the leadoff batter and then Abby Perryman doubled to score Cassie Wancheck
- Danielle Northrup walked to put runners at first and second and then a single to left by Claudia Ware loaded the bases
- Majette struck out Avery Wheatley looking for the first out before Bri Bryant singled up the middle to score Perryman for a 2-1 lead
- Campbell made it 3-1 on a Megan Mozingo ground out and then Majette struck out Kayla Fredendall to end the inning
- Eagles made it a one-run game in the fourth as Taylor Charlton started it with a leadoff walk
- Logan Webb singled to put runners at first and second as Ansley Gilreath followed with an RBI single to center
- Tori Walker doubled to start the fifth and two batters later Brooke Ellison reached on a fielder's choice
- Romine came through with a single up the middle as Walker scored from second to tie the game at 3-3
- Campbell came right back to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Perryman doubled with two outs to score pinch-runer Hannah McCravy from second
- Winthrop put itself in position to tie the game in the top of the seventh as Lowers singled with one out followed by a single from Ellison
- Romine reached on a fielder's choice as Ellison was out at second on a force, putting runners at the corners
- Taylor Charlton took the count to full and fouled off a pitch before grounding to short as the Camels recorded a force out at second base to end the game
- Majette tossed a complete game allowing four runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts as she falls to 3-7 on the year
- Megan Richards also tossed a complete game allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts to improve to 5-6
EXTRA BASES
- Walker, Lowers and Ellison combined for five of the team's eight hits
- The Eagles ended the game with eight runners left on base
- Majette has now allowed six or fewer hits in six of her eight starts on the season
- Lowers had two hits for her 10th multiple hit game of the season as she has four in the last eight games
- With her two hits she now has 175 in her career and is 25 away from becoming the 8th player in program history with 200 hits in a career as she currently ranks 13th
- Romine tied her season-high of two RBI and finished the series with a team-best three RBI in the series
- Winthrop outscored the Camels 13-12 in the weekend series but batted just .212 as a team compared to Campbell hitting .329

The Eagles will host their first home games of the season when they welcome Longwood to Terry Field for a three-game series starting Friday, Mar. 15. The Eagles will take on the Lancers in a single-game on Friday at 6 p.m. for the home opener and then play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m.
