CHARLOTTE, NC— Winthrop dropped its second straight game as it fell 9-1 on the road at Charlotte, Monday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles struck first in the top of the first inning as Ashley Westbrooks singled with two outs and moved to second when Keleigh Romine reached on an error
- Brooke Ellison stood in and delivered a single to right, scoring Westbrooks from second for the early lead
- Back-to-back errors to start the bottom of the second allowed Charlotte to get on the board as Vannoy tied the game at 1-1 with a ground out to second
- The 49ers took the lead 2-1 after Birch scored on a passed ball before Majette ended the inning with consecutive strikeouts
- Charlotte tacked on three runs in the third as Ocker led off with a triple and scored on a single from Berrier
- Then Gray doubled to put runners and second and third as the 49ers manufactured two more runs home with a sac fly and ground out to second to lead 5-1
- In the bottom of the 5th the 49ers scored four runs including a two-run homerun that ended the game
- Majette took the loss as she falls to 2-2 on the year
EXTRA BASES
- Westbrooks had her third multi-hit game of the season as she was 2-for-4 with a run
- The Eagles run came in the first inning, which was the 7th time in 13 games this season the Eagles have scored in the first
- Logan Webb's single in the second inning gave her a hit in three straight games which is the longest current streak on the team
- Webb now has 10 hits (25 at-bats) in 10 games played and has at least one hit in seven of 10 games (had three hits in 21 at-bats)

Winthrop will head to Greenville, NC for the Purple-Gold Invitational hosted by East Carolina Mar. 1-3. Eagles will open up on Friday, Mar. 1 at 12:30 p.m. against Massachusetts and will face the host Pirates at 5:30 p.m.
