ATHENS, GA— Morgan Lowers had four RBI and
Madyson Watson allowed just two hits as Winthrop softball defeated Omaha 9-2 in its final game of the Red & Black Showcase, Sunday morning.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles struck in the top of the first as Morgan Lowers doubled with one away
- Ashley Westbrooks followed with a single to left and advanced to second as the throw came home but Lowers scored for a 1-0 lead
- Logan Webb led off the 2nd with a single up the middle but was out at second after Blake Wallert hit into a fielder's choice
- Wallert stole second to move into scoring position followed by Taylor Charlton drawing a walk
- Tori Walker then walked to load the bases as Lowers delivered a single in the hole at short, scoring Wallert and Charlton for a 3-0 lead
- Omaha got one back in the 2nd without a hit as Natalie Mostek was hit by Watson, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch
- Mostek then scored on a throwing error from Webb as she crossed the plate to make it 3-1
- Brooke Ellison led off the 3rd with a triple to left on a full count and then scored on an Ansley Gilreath single to right
- The Eagles second triple of the game came in the 4th when Lowers hit one to right center and then scored on a sac fly from Westbrooks for a 5-1 lead
- In the 4th inning the Mavericks made the Eagles pay for a leadoff walk
- Mostek drew the walk and then stole second to get into scoring position and three batters later with two outs Emma Dargy doubled to right center to score Mostek
- Ansley Gilreath added some insurance in the top of the 7th as she hit a two-run homerun to left center after Ellison led off the inning with a single
EXTRA BASES
- Lowers now has four hits in two of her last three games and five multi-hit games on the year
- Lowers also tied a career-high of four RBI, which she last did Feb. 25, 2017 vs. North Carolina Central
- Eagles had 10-plus hits in a game for the fifth time this season
- In 2018 the Eagles hit just one triple all season and this year's team has five through the first 10 games
- Eagles also had just three games of scoring seven or more runs in 2018 and this year have four games with seven or more
- Lowers currently leads the team in average, runs, hits, triples, homeruns and RBI
- Watson now has back-to-back complete game victories allowing two runs or less
- Through the first 10 games the Eagles are averaging 5.6 runs per game, 9.1 hits per game
ON DECK
Winthrop won't have any midweek contests as it is back in action a little closer to home when it travels to the Charlotte First Pitch Classic Feb. 22-24 hosted by the Charlotte 49ers. The Eagles will open on Friday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. against Lehigh and then face Youngstown State at 12:15 p.m.
