STATESBORO, GA— Winthrop softball fell 5-4 to St. Francis (Pa.) Sunday morning as the Red Storm earned a sacrifice fly walk-off win on the final day of the Bash in the Boro.

WHAT HAPPENED
- For the third time in five games the Eagles got on the board in the first inning
- Tori Walker led the game off with a single to short and was sacrificed to second by Morgan Lowers
- Ashley Westbrooks singled to right to put runners at the corners and then Winthrop took the lead on a double steal by Westbrooks and Walker
- Three batters later Brooke Ellison reached on an error at second that scored Westbrooks
- The Red Flash got one back in the second as Jordan Frank got things going with two outs after being hit by a pitch
- Brianna Walker followed with a single to left and then KassidyTroxell singled to left to score Frank
- Red Flash had a good chance to tie the game in the third inning after a single and double with one out
- Madyson Watson clamped down and struck out Sierra McKee for the second and out and ended the threat with a foul out to left
- Eagles led off the 4th with back-to-back singles from Ellison and Ansley Gilreath to put runners at the corners
- Taylor Charlton ripped a shot at short that was caught and led to a double play as pinch-runner Kamryn Culp was thrown out at 1st
- Ellison was able to score on the play as she hustled home for a 3-1 lead
- Eagles ran into trouble in the bottom of the 6th as Hayley Norton led off the inning with a home run down the right field line
- Two batters later Cheyenne McKee hit a solo shot to left center to tie the game at 3-3
- Frank followed with a single to the pitcher and then scored from first on a double to left center for a 4-3 lead
- Winthrop tied the game at 4-4 in the 7th as Westbrooks set the table with a leadoff single
- Westbrooks advanced to second on a wild pitch and over to third after Romine struck out and the catcher had to throw to first to get the out
- Sabrina Shroades gave no doubts as she ripped a double to left field, scoring Westbrooks to tie the game
- Ellison lined out to short and Gilreath flied out to center in an effort to take the lead
- The Red Flash got a leadoff single on the first pitch by MeKenzie Saban and two batters later Norton put runners at the corners with one out
- Sierra McKee drove in the winning run as she hit a fly ball to right for a sacrifice fly
EXTRA BASES
- Romine extended her on-base streak to five games and Lowers extended her hitting streaks to five games while Westbrooks and Wallert have a hit in four straight
- Lowers has a hit in her last eight games dating back to the end of the 2018 season
- In addition to Romine, Gilreath and Westbrooks have also reached in five straight games
- Lowers and Romine have a team-high eight hits over the first five games while Walker is second with 7
- Over the first five games the Eagles have generated a lot of scoring opportunities with 51 hits, 32 runs and have left 46 runners on base
- Winthrop had 11 hits against St. Francis, which is the third straight game with 11 or more hits

Winthrop won't have any midweek action as it will head to Athens, GA next weekend for the Red & Black Showcase. The Eagles open up Friday, Feb. 15 with a 1 p.m. contest against Buffalo and then face the host Georgia Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.
