ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's basketball extends its win streak to four with a come-from-behind win over High Point on New Year's Eve, 69-63.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles shot 40% from the field in the first half, but had a hard time protecting the ball, committing 15 turnovers. High Point made six 3-pointers in the first half, while Winthrop had zero points from behind the arc. High Point had a 36-27 lead at halftime. As the third quarter came to a close and the fourth quarter began, Winthrop went on a 16-0 run, over three High Point turnovers.
Myra Strickland's three-point play tied the game at 52 with 9:09 to play. High Point went on a 6-0 run, threatening to take the lead. With 2:15 on the clock, Sydney Curran drains a 3-pointer to tie the game at 63. Winthrop responds with a jumper from
Maleeah Langstaff to take a two point lead.
Jah'Che Whitfield grabbed the defensive rebound off a missed jumper and was fouled by High Points' Camryn Brown. Two good free throws from Whitfield made it a two possession game with nine seconds ont he clock. The Panther's missed a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining.
Miquela Santoro was fouled, made both of her free throws and secured the 69-63 win. This is Winthrop's first four game win streak since the 2014-15 season.

- Anika Riley recorded the seventh double-double in her collegiate career. She recorded a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.
- This is Winthrop's first four game win streak since beating Liberty, Presbyterian, Longwood and Charleston Southern during the 2014-15 season.
- Winthrop was dominant on the boards, out rebounding High Point 49 to 31.
- High Point attempted 46 3-pointers, connecting on 13. Winthrop attempted nine, connecting on three.
- Winthrop shot 45 percent from the field, 33 percent from 3-point range and 78 percent from the line.
